Output was rated at 375 horsepower when new. It came from the factory with an aluminum intake manifold and a four-barrel Holley 735-cfm carburetor, while the optional Drag Pack added a high-lift camshaft with mechanical lifters as well as cap-screw connecting rods and a modified crankshaft, flywheel, and vibration damper. Kar Kraft was commissioned by Ford to modify Cobra Jet Mustangs with a larger 429ci V8 featuring “crescent”-shaped combustion chambers. Controls for the choke and hood scoop are located on a bracket mounted above the accelerator pedal on the lower dash area. The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. Interior appointments include the Decor Group, a Philco AM radio, a floor-mounted center console, a Hurst shifter, and a heater. The refreshed cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in Corinthian White vinyl along with simulated woodgrain appliqués on the dash, console, and door panels. Power-assisted steering was also equipped from the factory. Power-assisted brakes with discs up front and drums out back were standard on the 429, with the front brakes reinforced with heavy-duty hubs and rotors as well as oversized spindles. The Boss 429 model was equipped with revised control arms, a higher-rate front anti-roll bar than other Mustang variants, a rear anti-roll bar, and a competition suspension with staggered rear shocks. The car is said to have been refurbished in the early 2000s, though the extent of the work is unknown.Ĭhrome-finished 15″ Magnum 500-style wheels feature black accents and are mounted with Goodyear Polyglas GT tires. Production was completed by Kar Kraft of Brighton, Michigan, and each example was given a serialized number. The Boss 429 was offered for the 19 model years in order to homologate the 429 engine for use in NASCAR. This Boss 429 was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023 and is now offered at in Missouri with a window sticker, a Deluxe Marti Report, and a clean California title. Assigned Kar Kraft number KK2192, the car was delivered new to Hull Dobbs Company in Memphis, Tennessee, and is said to have been refurbished in the early 2000s. This 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 is one of approximately 500 examples produced for the model year and was built one day ahead of schedule on September 29, 1969.
